Over the years since Onsite Gallery’s doors opened, owner David Bell has travelled far and wide hunting for unusual items for the Gallery.
David’s focus is on finding eclectic pieces that have a story to tell. They may no longer be perfect, but each perceived flaw, scratch, dent or evidence of ageing carries a hint of the history of the item. Wood in particular seems to have an aliveness about it that invites one to touch the surface, to run one’s hands along the worn edges, as countless people have over its lifetime.
On one of his many buying trips to Bueno Aires in Argentina, David discovered some wonderful architectural pieces of large proportions, including ornate doors and window frames, and sizeable items of furniture.
One such piece of furniture was a fabulous wooden counter, like the one in the photos below, which was purchased from Onsite Gallery many years ago by a Kalk Bay shop, where it is still in-situ.
This design has since become one of Onsite Gallery’s Bespoke Range. David took the original counter design and offered it to the Gallery’s discerning customers, with optional design feature adjustments to make it fit with their particular decor flare and tastes. The counter may be custom-built in a variety of wood and paint finishes to suit your requirements.
