David Bell, owner of Onsite Gallery and his creative team of stylists have mastered the art of creating unique eclectic architectural styles for various interior and exterior settings.
David’s own home is a wonderful example of how to harmoniously combine items, that normally would not be paired, but somehow, he manages to bring them together in a way that just makes them look and feel appropriate sitting comfortably alongside one another in the same space.
This talent has resulted in his home being featured in several well-respected South Africa décor and interior design publications, including the highly acclaimed recently published coffee table book by Leoni Smit, “Masculus – The Male Domain”. (See our previous Blog post about the book – copies of the book may be ordered via Onsite Gallery).
How does one achieve an eclectic style?
It depends largely on what mood you want to achieve. This can vary depending on your own design preference, the architectural setting and available space.
There are many elements at play that influence the overall creative outcome, including your choice of colour palettes, combining various decor styles from different periods, introducing materials like metal, glass, wood or cast cement, lighting choices, and varying textures, finishes and contours of pieces used.
The result may be a slow, organic process. It takes time and patience to find items that will blend well together to create the bespoke look and feel you envision. Take your time and enjoy the process of collecting and experimenting. Your patience will pay off.
