English Gothic Style – Lincoln Cathedral
The magnificent Lincoln Cathedral in the UK is one of the finest examples of the Gothic-style of construction, commissioned by William the Conqueror in 1072. Stand on a hilltop above the city, it commands expansive views of the surrounding countryside.
The design incorporates pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses, with large windows and wide roof spans. However, the old Norman style of architecture with its round arches for the doors and windows is still evident in parts.
The interior is filled with intricate design details, with a vast vaulted, arched roof, pillars and stained glass windows. The nave is a wonderful example of Early English Gothic style of construction, and the overall impression is awe-inspiring, demanding respect for the skills of the builders.
